Sainsbury’s reports 48% surge in eyelash sales with double impact of Halloween and X Factor glamour. Sainsbury’s sales of false eyelashes soared by 48% year on year last week in the run up to Halloween, reflecting the trend set by X Factor hopefuls Katie Waissel and Cher Lloyd.  Sales peaked on Friday 29th October when an extraordinary uplift of 60% was recorded as people began to plan their Halloween outfits.

UK has the second largest online economy in the world

The UK has the most developed internet economy in the world with the largest online e-commerce market per person, researchers have found. Online business is worth £100bn a year with internet revenue making up 7.2 per cent of our gross domestic product (GDP). The UK also has the second largest online advertising market world wide, after the United States. If the internet was an economic sector it would be the fifth largest - outweighing the UK's construction, transport and utilities industries.

Social networks increase traffic sent to online retailers by 13%

Social networks are sending nearly 13% more traffic to online retailers this year than last year, according to Experian Hitwise, the online competitive intelligence service. The company's analysis, taken from their latest report "Getting to grips with Social Media" reveals that social networking sites accounted for 11.6% of all UK Internet visits during September, representing a year on year growth of 4.3%.

High street shoppers spend £770 a year getting to the shops

The average Briton spends over £770 a year just travelling to the shops, before they have even bought anything according to new research by the TV and online shopping channel QVC. In the ten weeks leading up to Christmas the cost of going shopping is set to increase by 20 per cent with the average shopper forking out £185 before a single present is bought.
